Arriving in Dusseldorf, Germany after a VERY long night. Beth and Cody came down for a week so that we could go see Ireland for a few days. After our 2nd failed attempt to make the flight, we had 20 minutes to decide where to go. We were deciding between Spain, Amsterdam, England, Germany and somewhere else. We had no time to research anything about these places and decided to give Germany a try. We BARELY caught the flight on time and Jesse and I sat business class while the in-laws sat with Lexi in the back and braved the 9 hour flight. Well, we started our taxi onto the runway and something happened making us return to the gate to fix the problem. After a few hours we returned onto the plane and took off. A few minutes later, the Captain comes on the intercom and tells us something is wrong with the landing gear and we need to head back to Atlanta, but they couldn't land with a full tank. So... we flew in circles for 2.5 hours until we could land back in Georgia. I think Beth was thinking this is a sign to go home, but we were determined to go so we waited what was supposed to be 1 hour and ended up being 4 hours. We left the airport at 4:00 a.m. to arrive in Dusseldorf at 5:30 p.m.
There were thousands of locks on this bridge with people's names and dates that they were here. Really cool idea. I was sad we didn't have a lock.
Our first night at dinner. What an experience. Our waitress knew NO English and we knew NO German. So, we pointed and said numbers. She did know water, however, water to them is gross soda water. Cody is the only one who could drink it and I know he only did it so she wouldn't feel bad. I didn't care, it was so nasty!
This is the Barbossa castle in Dussuldorf. Apparently it's really not called that and we were lucky to find someone who spoke English to tell us where the only castle in the area we were at was.
It was REALLY cold today. We drove from Frankfurt to Dusseldorf today. We made good time driving on the autobon. Driving up to 110 MPH with cars wizzing past us. At one point I looked over at Jesse worried about our lives and asked if he felt safe driving at these speeds. He smiled and said no...
Something palace. I wish I could say we learned a lot about this place, but all of the placks were in German. But we know it was really old!
We stayed in this awsome little house/hotel the second night. They were so nice and had this beautiful breakfast set for us the next morning. I've never stayed in a bed and breakfast, but I imagine this is how it would be.
The start of our favorite part of the trip. Cochum, Germany. A beautiful place in the country set on the river. When you drive down the road you can see 16 castle's set on the hills of this country. All of these castle date back to the middle ages. I felt just like a princess. We loved how clean everything here was.
